Owner / Operator Patricia A. Martineau answers your frequently asked
questions

Grooming FAQ's

Q. "Why can't you just give me a set time when my pet will be finished"?
A. It is our policy to call you when your pet is finished because pet grooming is not an exact
science. Many variable come into play and every day is different. We allow 3-4 hours for each pet
to include these variables (phone calls, difficult pets requiring 2 groomers, flea baths (pets who
arrive with fleas are immediately given a flea bath regardless if another pet was here first),
cleaning soiled kennels, rewashing pets who have soiled the kennel, extra brushing / de matting
etc. Some pets are completed sooner, and in that case we'll just call you.

Q. "I wanted to call you but you said you'd rather call me when my dog was done. Why"?
A. We will not leave a pet on a grooming table or in the tub unattended for safety reasons. Every
time the phone rings a pet's grooming must be stopped, the pet placed in a kennel, and then the
phone can be answered. We'd prefer to just call you for this reason. Trust me,
I LOVE to hear our
phone ring but try to minimize interrupting a grooming whenever possible.

Q. "I brush my dog every day and he still got a close trim because he was matted"?
A.  I'm sure you do brush your dog. However, if a dog is not brushed
properly, matting will occur.
W
hen the brushing is complete a comb should glide effortlessly through the full thickness of the
coat and right down to the skin. If a dog does not tolerate the brushing / de matting or if the
matting is too close to the skin your pet will have to be clipped close. This is our policy because
we love animals and refuse to hurt them or make them uncomfortable for vanity reasons.

Q. "Why does my dog's haircut cost more than mine"?!

A. The Top Ten Reasons Your Dog's Hair Cut Costs More than Yours:

10. Your hairdresser doesn't wash and clean your rear end.

9. You don't go for eight weeks without washing or brushing your hair.

8. Your hairdresser doesn't have to give you a sanitary trim.

7. Your hairdresser doesn't have to clean your ears.

6. Your hairdresser doesn't have to clean boogies from your eyes.

5. You sit still for your hairdresser.

4. Your haircut doesn't include a manicure or pedicure.

3. Your hairdresser only washes and cuts the hair on your head.

2. You don't bite or scratch your hairdresser (I hope not anyway).

And the Number 1 reason your dog's haircut costs more than yours....

1. The likelihood of you pooping or peeing while your hair is being cut is extremely slim!

Q. "I called and got an appointment the same day last time, why couldn't you do it this time"?
A. I strongly recommend booking your grooming appointments in advance. This keeps you on a
regular grooming schedule and reduces the likelihood of a shorter trim due to matting.  It's a
gamble to call on the same day you would like your dog to be groomed, especially on a Saturday.
If we have time we will
gladly take you, if we don't we will gladly book you for our next available
appointment. Pets taken in on a same day basis will be finished last. It is only fair to our clients
who have a standing appointment.

Q. "Do you use drying boxes"?
A. No, it is my opinion that this method of drying is outdated and excessive. We do not use any
methods of drying that are excessive in nature. Our facility is also very comfortably climate
controlled.

Q. "Do you use flea dips"?
A. No. It is my opinion that flea dips are outdated and unsafe. External parasite control has come
a long way in the past decade with spot on treatments such as Frontline, Advantix, etc. We do
use flea and  tick shampoos that we feel are safer and will kill the parasites currently on your pet.

Boarding FAQ's

Q. "Why may I have to bring my dog to meet you prior to booking"?
A. I may have to  meet with your dog prior to boarding here because we are a hands-on facility,
not a traditional kennel. This means we are frequently taking your dog in and out of a kennel to
walk it outside to relieve him/herself. We are making sure that your dog is able to be put into and
taken out of a kennel as well as being able to be moved about the facility on lead. If these tasks
aren't able to be accomplished with your dog  we can not accept it for boarding. If this is the case,
no worries, I can refer you to a more traditional facility that may be able to accommodate you.
Dogs who have been boarded in the past with positive results, or dogs that have been crate
trained at home will NOT need to be evaluated.

Q. "You know my dog because he is a grooming client, so can't I just drop him off without filling
out paperwork"?
Q. No. Although we certainly may know your dog in a grooming setting there is
a lot more
involved in boarding him. The Boarding Registration Form includes feeding times, questions
concerning behavior, and medical history. Our forms are designed so that we have the answers
to questions BEFORE and not AFTER the fact. Being informed in the beginning means a safer
and happier stay for your dog and our staff.

Q. "Do you do in-home pet sitting"?
A. No. The way our boarding is done in our facility is as close to being at your home, without
actually
being at your home. Please do yourself a favor and do you homework before allowing
someone into your home.

Q.  "Why do I have to give a 50% nonrefundable deposit before I am considered booked"?
A. We have only a limited number of rooms or kennels available. Our boarding has become such
a success that when we are booked and someone cancels, somebody who wanted to book is
going without. If we can't fill your appointment then WE are going without.
